The ten questions worth answering before you hand a file to a tool
Every answer below is a statement of fact about how this site behaves, not a claim about what it might do. Where a number is involved — a size limit, a format, a specification date — the number is here so you can check it yourself.
Answers
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. This application reads and processes your files in your browser; it has no file-upload endpoint. Your browser may request the page, scripts, codecs and other assets from the site. Those requests do not contain the files you select. Cloudflare may receive ordinary connection information as described in the privacy policy.
Is CompressInKB free?
Yes. The tools do not require an account, subscription or payment. There are file-size and device-memory limits to keep processing manageable. Advertising is currently disabled; the privacy and cookie policies explain what would change if it is enabled.
Will a 50 KB target give me exactly 50 KB?
The tool searches for a result at or below the requested limit and reports the actual size. Some formats or very demanding targets cannot reach that size at a usable quality. In that case you will see the closest result or a warning; an exact size is not guaranteed.
What if my target size is impossible to reach?
The result card tells you if the target was missed. Try a less demanding limit, crop unnecessary content, reduce dimensions where the destination permits it, or split a PDF into fewer pages. Always open the result and check that important details remain readable.
Which file types do you accept?
Supported raster inputs include JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, HEIF, GIF and BMP; document tools accept PDF. SVG, HTML, XML and script files are refused. The per-file limit is 50 MB, with additional image-pixel and PDF-page limits. Some formats and large files may not work on every device.
How accurate are the exam photo and signature specifications?
The preset is a starting point, not an official decision or a guarantee of acceptance. Requirements can vary by exam and change between cycles. Always verify dimensions, size, format, background and any live-photo rules with the current official notification and application portal before submitting.
Does compressing a photo remove EXIF data such as GPS location?
Image compression and resizing create a new encoded image and normally omit the source EXIF metadata. Other operations may behave differently. If metadata matters, inspect the downloaded file before sharing it; keep the original if you need its capture date or other information.
Can I use these tools on a phone, and do they work offline?
The site is designed for phones, tablets and desktop browsers. File processing is local, but a connection is needed to load the page and may be needed later to fetch a codec or PDF worker on first use. Offline operation is not guaranteed; large files may also exceed a phone’s available memory.
Do I need an account, and do you keep a history of my files?
No account or application-side file history is needed. The selected file is held in the browser during processing and the result is downloaded to your device. Preferences and the optional admin configuration can be stored locally in your browser. The hosting provider can receive ordinary web-request information; see the privacy policy for details.
The portal still rejects my file. What should I check?
Compare the current official instructions with the downloaded file: file format, size in bytes, pixel dimensions, orientation and visual rules such as background and legibility. If a portal requires a live photograph, complete that step on the official portal. Keep the original and try again from it rather than recompressing the output repeatedly.
Still stuck on something specific?
The questions that follow a specific tool — how a merge orders pages, what a 30 KB signature floor means, why a loan’s early instalments are mostly interest — are answered on the relevant page rather than here. If your question is not covered anywhere, write to us: a wrong byte count or a broken link is treated as a bug and usually fixed the same day.
