SSC photograph and signature uploads: check the current notice
Different SSC recruitments and application cycles can use different upload instructions. Some recent notices require a live photo captured in the application rather than an old photo file. Start with the notification for the exact post and year, and use the official portal's instructions throughout the application.
This independent guide explains how to check those instructions, prepare a signature image and troubleshoot an upload. The CompressInKB presets are starting points, not official SSC services or a promise of acceptance.
Start with the notification for your application
Open the notice and any corrigendum on the official SSC website. Find the sections on online applications, live photographs, signature format and any instructions for document verification. Keep the notice next to you while preparing the files.
For example, the 2026 Selection Post Phase XIV notice describes a live photograph and a JPEG signature with a 10โ20 KB file-size range. It also gives physical signature dimensions. This is an example from one notice, not a guarantee that another examination will use the same rules. The notice and application screen for your own recruitment control.
Do not assume that CGL, CHSL, GD, Selection Post and state-board recruitments all use the same photo field or signature size. Requirements may also change between cycles of the same examination.
The live-photograph step
If SSC asks you to capture a live photograph, use the camera workflow provided within the official application. Our image resizer cannot take the place of that capture. Do not attempt to present a picture on another device or a printed photograph to the camera instead.
Before starting, check that your device camera works and that your browser permits camera access for the official site. Choose even lighting, a suitable background and a clear view of your face in accordance with the notice. Do not cover the camera; position yourself as directed by the official preview.
If the camera does not open, check browser permissions and close other applications that may be using the camera. Retry using a supported browser or device, and contact the official help channel if the problem continues. A network connection is needed for the official application even though our own image processing occurs locally.
Prepare a clear handwritten signature
Sign on plain paper using the colour, style and placement specified in the notice. A clear scan or a sharply focused photograph is a better starting point than a small, blurred source. Keep the page flat and avoid shadows or cropped edges. If the notice restricts capital letters or prescribes particular ink, follow that wording.
Crop around the signature with a reasonable margin. Select the relevant CompressInKB signature starting preset or enter dimensions from the official notice. Signature presets fit the whole image with padding; they cannot tell whether the source contains the correct signature or whether it satisfies the recruitment's rules.
Download the resulting JPEG, open it and check that the complete signature is visible. Compare its actual pixel dimensions and byte size with the application instructions. A 6 ร 2 cm figure, a pixel canvas and a file-size range are different measurements: pixels alone do not guarantee the printed physical size.
Choose a workable file size
When the official instructions give both a minimum and maximum, aim comfortably inside the range while keeping the writing readable. Our tool can add inert bytes to some JPEG files to meet a minimum; an application portal may inspect files differently, so check its response and do not assume acceptance.
The tool tries compression at the chosen canvas dimensions. If it cannot satisfy the byte cap at those dimensions, it reports the miss rather than secretly reducing the pixel size. Consider a cleaner source or a different authorised size; never crop away part of the signature merely to meet a number.
If an upload fails
- Read the exact error and compare the file with the current notice: actual format, file extension, dimensions, size and correct upload field.
- Convert a file properly rather than renaming a PNG or HEIC file to .jpg. A different extension does not change the contents.
- Reopen the downloaded result to check orientation, legibility and the entire signature. Select the new file rather than a previous attempt.
- If the file appears correct, check the session, connection and browser permissions. Retry with a supported browser and use SSC's help channel if needed.
- Keep the original and a copy of the submitted file in a private folder. Do not post personal application documents publicly while asking for help.
What the tool does and does not do
CompressInKB processes the selected image inside your browser. Loading the page and its processing code may require a connection, but the selected image is not uploaded to our processing server. The official application is a separate service and receives the files you choose to submit to it.
This is an independent convenience tool. It does not check identity, face proportions, visual authenticity, ink colour or an application's live-camera result. An upload confirmation is not the same thing as the recruitment authority finally accepting every detail of an application.

Frequently asked questions
Does SSC always accept a previously saved photograph?
No. Some current notices require live capture. Follow the notice and the application's camera instructions for your specific recruitment.
What is the signature size for every SSC exam?
There is no safe universal answer. One linked 2026 notice states 10โ20 KB for a JPEG signature; your current notice may differ.
Will the tool create my signature?
No. You must provide a clear image of your own handwritten signature. The tool only resizes and compresses it.
Is a file accepted just because it fits the byte limit?
Not necessarily. Format, dimensions, visual content and other official conditions can also matter.
The file tools linked in this guide process selected files in your browser. No account or installation is required; a connection may be needed to load the page and processing code.
