How to use delete pdf pages

  1. 1Add the PDF.
  2. 2Type the page numbers to remove — 3, or 7-9 for a span, or a combination.
  3. 3Run it, then check the page count on the result card against the arithmetic you did in your head.
  4. 4Download, and open the file once to confirm the first and last pages are what you expect before you upload it.

Why this tool, and why browser-side

Deletion is the right tool when almost everything is needed: dropping a cover sheet, a blank reverse side, a bank footer page or a page of advertising from a scanned bundle. Listing two pages to remove is faster than listing eighteen to keep.

It is also the tool for shrinking a document without touching quality. Removing three blank or duplicate pages from a scan removes their image data entirely, which no compression setting can match.

The risk with deletion is asymmetry: an extraction is obviously wrong if it is too short, while a deletion leaves a document that looks complete and is missing a page. The result card states the page count precisely for that reason.

This tool exists for PDF documents handled in a hurry: no queue, no account, no upload, and a result you can verify on the spot. The explanation below is the same one we would give a colleague who asked how it works.

PDFs can contain text, images, fonts, forms and document properties. A structural rewrite may reduce a file, but the saving depends on its contents. Keep the original and inspect the output: a rewrite is not guaranteed to remove all identifying metadata, preserve interactive features or make a file safe.

Scanned documents behave differently from every other file you have. Each page is a photograph, typically 1–3 MB at 300 dpi in colour, with no text layer unless your scanner ran OCR. That means there is no lossless cleverness available — the bytes genuinely are the picture. The cheapest wins on a scan are usually cropping the grey table edge out of every page and turning off colour where the document is black ink on white paper.

Accepted inputs are PDF files up to 50 MB. SVG, HTML and other script-bearing formats are refused outright rather than sanitised, because a file that can execute code has no business being re-encoded — and an upload field that accepts one is a security hole rather than a feature. The tool works on one file at a time, which keeps the result unambiguous.

How it works under the hood

The selected pages are omitted when remaining pages are copied into a fresh PDF, without rasterising them. Shared resources or other data can remain, and output size is not guaranteed to fall proportionally. This is not a secure-redaction tool; inspect the result. Deletion copies the pages you keep to a new document. Document-level links, bookmarks, forms and metadata are not guaranteed to survive. Check the downloaded file and do not rely on page deletion as secure redaction.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove a page range rather than single pages?

Yes. 7-9 removes pages seven, eight and nine. You can combine spans and single pages: 2,5-6,11 removes page two, pages five and six, and page eleven.

Can I remove the first page only?

Type 1. That is the usual fix for a cover sheet or a fax header page, and it removes the page's image data along with the page.

What happens to the pages' numbering after deletion?

Remaining pages are renumbered sequentially, which is what viewers show. If the document contains printed page numbers, those stay as they were and will no longer match the viewer, so check before you file it anywhere that cites page numbers.

Does deleting pages reduce file size?

It can, but the result depends on shared resources and serialization. Check the actual downloaded size rather than assuming a proportional reduction.

Can I delete pages from a PDF I cannot open?

No. Encryption protects the page contents; without the password there is nothing to work with. Owner-password documents that open freely can be re-saved and then edited normally.

Can I undo a deletion?

Not inside the tool — the original on your disk is untouched, and the output is a new file. Keep the original until you have confirmed the upload succeeded.

Is my document uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole operation happens in the browser tab with the File and Blob APIs, and there is no server component at any point.

Will my forms and annotations survive deletion?

They may not work correctly after pages are copied into a new PDF. Check the downloaded document, and keep the original if its interactive features matter.
